A deeply passionate and sensitive pianist, Christian Blackshaw is acclaimed for the incomparable musicality that characterizes his performances. His playing combines immense emotional depth with a profound understanding of the music. Born in Cheshire, England, he studied with Gordon Green at the Royal College of Music in Manchester and the Royal Academy of Music in London, winning the gold medal at both institutions. He then became the first British pianist to study at the Leningrad Conservatory with Moisei Halfin, and later worked closely with Sir Clifford Curzon in London.
He has performed worldwide and at various festivals as a recitalist and soloist alongside many renowned conductors, including Sir Simon Rattle, Gianandrea Noseda, Sir Donald Runnicles, Herbert Blomstedt, Trevor Pinnock, Neeme Järvi, and Yannick Nézet-Séguin. He is also the founding director of the Hellensmusic Festival, established in 2013.
