In his first album for Apart\u00e9 entitled\u00a0Bach Arias for alto<\/em>, the promising young countertenor Zoltan Darago performs 11 arias from Bach cantatas, accompanied by Les Talens Lyriques conducted by their founder Christophe Rousset. To be released on\u00a013 September 2024.<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Countertenor\u00a0Zoltan Darago<\/strong>\u00a0joins the ensemble\u00a0Les Talens Lyriques\u00a0<\/strong>and its founder and conductor Christophe Rousset to perform\u00a011 arias\u00a0<\/strong>from well-known and lesser-known cantatas by Johann Sebastian Bach in an album entitled\u00a0Bach Arias for alto<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Reflecting the intense activity of the composer’s early years as Kapellmeister of the city of Leipzig, almost all the arias on this album were written between 1724 and 1726, when Bach had to compose a cantata for each Sunday service.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

For the composer,\u00a0the alto voice has a singular place<\/strong>: it is both an expression of suffering and compassion, but also of a profound jubilation of faith, as in the cantata\u00a0Erfreute Zeit im neuen Bunde<\/em>, which leads to a feeling of serenity expressed in\u00a0Vergn\u00fcgte Ruh, beliebte Seelenlust<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Often\u00a0highlighted by the solo violin, oboe or oboe d’amore<\/strong>, the young countertenor brings out the full expressive palette developed by Bach in the early years of his cantorship.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Zoltan Darago declares himself\u00a0honoured by his collaboration with Christophe Rousset<\/strong>\u00a0and Les Talens Lyriques, which represents an important stage in his career.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Christophe Rousset, for whom Bach’s work constitutes the\u00a0“very foundation of every classical musician”,<\/em>\u00a0is playing his favoured repertoire here. Recently released by Apart\u00e9, his recording of\u00a0L’Art de la Fugue<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(AP313) on harpsichord was very well received, and nominated for an Opus Klassik award for best solo recording. The ResMusica website described it as\u00a0‘a great version’,<\/strong>\u00a0which takes us to\u00a0‘a very high level’<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

In\u00a0October 2024,<\/strong>\u00a0Apart\u00e9 will release a complete recording of Johann Sebastian\u00a0Bach’s Toccatas,<\/strong>\u00a0an album that will conclude Christophe Rousset’s exploration of the composer’s keyboard works.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
